Dear friends!
When I learned how much money was collected during this time of preparation for Christmas and New Year, I was amazed to the depth of my soul!
Of course it is my responsibility to be up to date on the book-keeping and learn where and to what purpose the money is spent. So, it would seem, I should have long ago become used to the numbers in the money that is collected. But this number - the number that specifies the sum collected due to your support for the children who undergo treatment in the Republican Children's Hospital - it is simply astonishing. Because I very much understand that to find this sum for you was very difficult. Behind this money there are not only good intentions, there is real love and compassion and participation in the lives of the children. Mainly we know you, dear friends, only by your first names, and sometimes we do not know your names at all. But along with that, we feel, we very much feel your participation in our work, in our lives and, what is most important, in the lives of these children. I do not want to speak loud words, although it may be at some times necessary. And it is really because of that that I now do want to say one or two loud phrases. That which you do, it is the very rebuilidng of the Church, it is the rebuilding of society, it is indeed that only thing that is today necessary for Russia - because Russia now needs for us all to work together, to support each other, to find resources for all different sorts of undertakings. And that which is done for the children is always done for the future generations. And even not only in the sense that, having been cured, these children will be able to work. No, in a different, much more important sense - in that the young people today are already incomparably kinder than the people of my and elder generations - and Internet is used primarily by young people. I understand very well that most money was donated by people who are not even fourty.
Dear friends!
I would like to hug and congradulate with Christmas and New year each and every one of you separately, but, understanding that is is impossible, I would like to tell some personal words to all of you. Thank you! I am proud of this virtual friendship with you, and I hope that in the future we all will be useful to each other, that every one of us will be able to do something really important, needed and meaningful not only for self but for each other.
Priest Georgiy Chistyakov.
28.12.99 Jeff and Natalia, with their American friends, collected
11,165 USD for the pediatric hospital. Of this sum, they give 7,000 USD for
the medicine needed for bone marrow transplant for Pasha Khilko; and 4,165
USD for bying the infusion pump for dosage of medicine.
Victor gave 200 USD for medicine for the kids in general haematology ward.
Pyotr brought 100 USD for medicine.
26.12.99 Employees of "DHL International" gathered 15,700 rubles
for toys. We are grateful to everyone who donated money for the New Year
presents. Thank you for this help; if not for the presents, the kids' life
would have been a lot more dull. Quite often, joy — and you gave this joy
to the kids — leads to the change in the course of a disease!
25.12.99 25 December 1999. Mother of Kostya Mitko, the boy in the immunology ward, wrote a poem for everyone who helps children:
In this poor and tormented country,
Which is angry and struggling and sick,
Some people are lending a helping hand,
Some people have generous souls!
Thank you, thank you, thank you,
We are saying this loud and clear.
The kids born anew through your hope and your love
Will never forget your help.
Pavel bought for the immunology ward a perfusor and additional materials
for it, totalling a sum of 3,500 USD. It is an electronic device for
uninterrupted, high-presicion dosage of medicine.
The money sent from Canada was used by the immunology ward to buy 4 boxes
of Orungal, Rovomicine antibiotic, 160 catheters.
The company "Medial-M" gave to the immunology ward Christmas decorations,
videocassettes with movies and candy sets.
Sergei donated 5,000 USD for the New Year holiday in the hospital; and
4,000 USD for 15-year-old Marifat Khamdamova from the general haematology
ward. The girl is diagnosed with Falconi's anaemia; it is inborn aplastic
anaemia; the only cure is the transplantation of bone marrow. The operation
was radical, Marifat was cured, but, unfortunately, a life-threatening
complication has developed — the reaction of the transplant against the
host. Now the doctors are giving her a unique treatment, the girl's
condition is much better, but this treatment requires a vast sum of money —
4,500 USD. Thanks to Sergei, this sum is almost collected.
24.12.99 Olga transferred 1,500 rubles for medication for the
children.
23.12.99 Dear friends! We are grateful to all who responded to our
request to gather New Year presents for the kids. Danila gave 2,000 USD for
presents, Sabina gave many wonderful toys, Irina gave great presents for
the smallest patients, the employees of a beauty parlor "Natur-Niko" gave
200 rubles for presents. If someone wants to join them and bring presents,
we would be very grateful. After all, Orthodox Christmas closely follows
the New Year celebration.
20.12.99 On 21 December 1999 the project "HELP SAVE CHILDREN"
turns one year. We would like to share with you the results of our work, to
tell you what we have achieved.
During the year, a system was set up — a system which helps sick children
to hope for the better. We do not know whether it is much or little, but we
were trying to do everything that depended on us.
During the last year, the site http://deti.msk.ru helped us collect over
130,000 USD and 170,000 rubles. It allowed us to pay for the treatment of
15 kids. The search for the money to treaat 8 more kids continues: Our plea
"Help us save children" drew responses from hundreds of individuals and
dozens of companies all around the world. Journalists and politicians,
students and schoolchildren, businessmen and officials, people of different
social status, well-being and creed united with the only aim — to save
children. Their efforts proved to be a success.
Our plea "We understand that to find such vast money for the cure is very
difficult and virtually impossible for one individual, but if each of us
inputs a small part of what is necessary, we might make it" — this plea
turned out to be efficient!
Only together did we manage to solve difficult and at first sight
unsolvable problems. We very much hope that we shall stay together in the
coming year. Once again, with all heart — THANK YOU SO MUCH!
16.12.99 Danila bought for the general haematology ward 2
washing-machines with driers. It is a very important purchase, since
children with blood diseases must stay in conditions of utmost purity.
15.12.99 Our acccount in RLE network received 50000 banner
displays from the account #7104.
9.12.99 Katya transferred 7201 banner displays to our RLE network
account.
5.12.99 Dear friends! Very soon on December 21 we celebrate the first anniversary of our site. We have a wonderful initiative to get all people who are involved in the project together and have celebrate tis date. All people helping us writers, translators, journalists and of course you our sponsors we invite to this party We'd like to meet and get to know each other more in a warm and friendly atmosphere. If you support this idea, please write to Elena Muliarova. Suggestions are welcome.
3.12.99 On today's site the chart with all data on sponsorship money transferred to charity fund account for treatment of children was published. You can look at it here on the page.
2.12.99 December 2. Two friends, the two Kirills organized a real festival for children of the Ward of General Hematology , Restructive Surgery and Kidney Transplantation. They bought and brought to the children Sony Play Station with a set of education and fun CD -ROM. But since A TV set in the Ward of Reconstruction Surgery was too old and did not match Sony Play Station they did not think too long and brought a new TV set!! Children were so grateful!!! Thank you very much the two Kirills!!!
25.11.99 On the 24 th of November Yulia Bessonova finally got electrically operated wheel chair produced by the German company "Meyra" . Money for this wheel chair was collected back in summer time by our friend in America Elena and her friends, but wheel chairs to the store of " Meyra" company were delivered only recently. Most probably for patience and long waiting the company presented Julia and Traumotology Ward of the All Russia Children Hospital several other items.
22.11.99 Dear Friends!
The favorite children's holiday New Year is coming soon. Unfortunately some of our little patients will have to see New Year's Eve in the hospital. Only by our joint efforts we could make this holiday more festival and cheerful for those who had to stay in the hospital. We have a request to everybody to help us with toys for them. We have already started to collect New Year presents for kids and we sincerely hope and count on doing it together with you. Please, realize that only seriously sick children have to stay in the hospital on holidays , so for health reasons they need clean and preferably brand new toys. It goes without saying that kids like bright and amusing toys. If this message is read by farther Frost and Snegurochka, be sure that children will be happy to see you.
20.11.99 Russian Orthodox Parish in Toronto collected and transferred 485$ for the department of clinical immunology of All Russian Children Hospital. The Lonbergs' family from far Holland, from Amsterdam donated 4980$ for all children represented on the site.
19.11.99 After the course of chemical therapy Katya Savelieva reached the remission in her principal disease. Soon she will go through typification , so that the doctor's get to know whether marrow of Katya' s brother is suitable for transplantation. If the marrow of Katya's brother matches then doctor's will go for operation. If the marrow does not match Katya will have auto immune marrow transplantation. Doctors estimate Katya's chances as relatively high.
Pasha Khilko had the second course of chemical therapy. The boy went through the therapy well and is feels fine. He will be given one or two more courses of chemical therapy , then doctors will consider the question of his possible operation that is auto immune marrow transplantation. Doctors are seeing his chances as relatively high.
22.10.99 On Sunday, 17 October our good friend Danila has organized
a wonderful holiday! Sasha the clown came and, as a fairy-tale magician,
brought five boxes of ice-cream. The clown has visited three wards -
general haematology, oncology and traumatology. It was Sasha's first
experience in front of such audience, but he made it quite neatly and it
was great fun for kids and their parents. He was assisted by Chizhik the
dog, who earned his share of applause. Sasha said he would now come to the
hospital every week, with Chizhik and the ice-cream. Many thanks to Danila
and Sasha for this holiday!
Photo: children, Sasha the clown and Chizhik the dog.
21.10.99 We are very grateful to our friends from the Russian foundation of
Assistance, because they are never indifferent to our needs, they find
people and means to support the children. The Russian foundation of
Assistance helps these chilren a lot: Vova Leskov, Tamara Khutiyeva, Katya
Savelyeva, Serezha Panchenko and many other chilren. We want to say a big
Thank You to them!
11.10.99 Pavel bought tickets to the circus for children from the genetics ward.
30.09.99 Irina, having visited the hospital church, displayed
great compassion for our problems. She gave 11,000 rubles for the
immunology ward. We want to thank her very much.
19.09.99 "Alita" trade house made a present to the general
haematology ward — two computers! We want to thank them so much, now the
kids may play and learn. "Alita" also gave a personal computer to Serezha
Panchenko. The boy was dreaming of one for so long that he could not even
believe it was true. "This can't be! - he said. - This is not for me". We
are deeply grateful to the company: it helped Serezha's dream come true.
18.09.99 Denis Andriyenko was at home for a month. Yesterday he
came back to Moscow. Doctors consider that he responded to the treatment:
his analyses are good, no trombocytes are being transferred, he feels fine.
Of course, he will have to undergo treatment for a long time and to take
medicine for at least two years, but the doctors hope his treatment would
be eventually successfully completed. Denis is now going to his hometown
Maikop; in December he would come for control.
9.09.99 We would like to tell you about the health status of kids
you've been taking care of. Kristina Kupreyeva feels very well; bone marrow
had been transplanted; doctors say the transplant has fully rooted, the
girl experiences complete remission, there are no symptoms of her main
disease (aplastic anaemia). Sasha Shevchenko has also undergone such
operation; however, he was operated during an acute phase of leucosis, so
experiences certain problems. He is now in the early post-transplantation
period, and his prognosis lacks certainty. Still, he feels quite well, and
doctors think that he has good chances to recover.
3.09.99 Dmitry gave to the kidney transplantation ward "Indesit"
washing machine. Elizaveta bought 300 USD worth of Orungal and Citozar for
the wards of general haematology and oncohaematology and brought toys for
orphanage children who are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
1.09.99 Dear friends! We would like to ask you for some favors.
You might be able to help us.
The kids we're taking care of need more than just medicine and drugs. They
have to stay in the hospital for months and even years, they have to learn,
to develop their skills, to think about future profession. A computer could
be a wonderful way to provide the kids with fun and learning tools.
Unfortunately, the hospital cannot provide a personal computer for every
kid, though it has a computer class which is open for all patients. Our
appeal addresses to those who upgrade their computers. If you do not want
or cannot sell your old machines, give them to our children. We shall take
them from you to the hospital.
The hospital has several wards which require special sterile conditions:
the ward of general haematology, oncohaematology, oncology, bone marrow
transplantation. All these wards badly need soft washable furniture, like
couches and arm-chairs for the halls and playing rooms made of artificial
leather or other washable materials. Perhaps you have such furniture in
your home or office and you are planning to change it. We would be very
grateful if you could give the old furniture to the hospital.
More good news:
The people whom we have known only through the Internet, sponsors of our
children, become our friends "in real life" too! Four people from
Switzerland, having come to Moscow, visited the oncology ward, brought many
presents to our children, visited Sasha Shevchenko whom they had helped
before. Our links to the world ceases to be purely financial, modifies into
friendship ties. This is a great source of joy for us!
20.08.99 Dear friends, we want you to share our grief. On August 19, at 3 am in the
intensive care unit of Russian Pediatric Clinical Hospital Olya Kudashkina
has passed. Olya had spent a half of her short life in the hospital; she
lived there, played there, got to know the world. Olya was practically
incapable of walking, playing outdoors, running, doing things all kids
adore. In spite of these tragic circumstances, the girl loved life with a
passion, she used to be joyful all the time. She loved people, and everyone
who knew her got to like her immediately. Olya had a real passion for life,
she struggled for her life up to the very last minute. Unfortunately, the
disease had won.
We would like to say a few words about those who was with Olya in the
hospital. Olya's mother and grandmother believed that the girl would live;
they constantly struggled with despair and hopelessness. Olya's mother,
Natasha, lived in the hospital with the girl, not leaving the ward, even
though she was expecting a child at the time. Olya's little sister was born
the exact day and hour of Olya's death. We want to say a huge Thank you to
all those who was supporting Olya and her family during these months. To
those who gave money to buy medicine and food for Olya, for those who gave
blood to her. Please do not think you have wasted your time and efforts. We
are sure that good deeds do change something for the better in this world.
Maybe the sense of Olya's short life was to make people feel kind and
necessary. Many people from all places united in an effort to save Olya
Kudashkina. Please, do not forget Olya.
15.08.99 Unexpectedly for everyone, a new grief has striken: Olya Kudashkina suffered a brain haemorrage. She is now in intensive care in a
very serious condition. We are extremely worried about her life, but we
still hope for the better. The girl still needs trombocyte donors (any
blood group). Alexander transferred his fee, 435 rubles, for Olya.
7.08.99 Olya Kudashkina feels much better. She relocated with her
parents to the apartment rent with money given by Marina. Olya still gets
transfusions of trombocytes. The treatment should be continued until
transplantation of bone marrow from the future sister is possible. During
that time she has to live in Moscow, since such operation cannot be carried
out in her native town. So the family badly needs money so they could rent
an apartment for 2 to 3 months.
7.08.99 Lena from America and her friends collected 2800 USD for
Yulya Bessonova! We shall order a "Derby" wheelchair at the "Maira" company very
soon; we expect it to be delivered to Russia within 10 weeks. Yulya's
mother sends her heartfelt thanks to all who helped collect money. With the
wheelchair, Yulya, who spent her last 10 years lying, would be able to
learn, to live an active life - go out, to to theaters and museums, visit
her friends at the hospital.
17.07.99 After "Vzglyad" program was aired on July 12, more than 50
people came to the hospital, willing to volunteer their blood for
trombocytes for children (any blood group is okay). And this is only the
beginning!
5.07.99 Olya Kudashkina's condition was absolutely hopeless, she did
not respond to three courses of specialized treatment, besides, she
developed a fatal complication - lung aspergellesis. She was operated, a
portion of a lung was removed, but Olya's condition was still extremely
grave - no leucocytes, no haemoglobin. In spite of despair, the treatment
continued. Now Olya feels much better, she eats again, walks, draws, plays
with toys. But the best news is her analyses. Her leucocytes are at 1.3!
There is hope that bone marrow transplantation might be possible. Olya's
mother is expecting a baby, and during the childbirth umbilical cord stem
cells shall be taken. If the baby would be suitable regarding tissue
antigens, bone marrow transplantation would become possible. We all hope
that it would be so.
26.06.99 Denis Andriyenko and Vova Leskov began to undergo Neupogene
treatment. The results are very good, according to doctors, both boys show
signs of improvement. The problem is, they are running out of Neupogene.
Abruptly ceasing the treatment now might cause grave troubles. We are
asking all good people to help these kids and doctors continue the
treatment.
6.06.99 Olya's condition has slightly deteriorated, so the doctors
decided to suspend intensive treatment. The collection of money for Olya's
expensive medicine is also suspended, since the doctors have everything
that is necessary for her in her present condition.
31.05.99 Vanya Scherbenev is going to be released from hospital! He will
attend physicians twice a week, and then, should everything be all right,
go back home.
30.05.99 Finnish pharmaceutical company "Nikomed" in anticipation of
Day of Protection of Children donates to the Republican Pediatric Hospital
1000 flasks of liquid vitamins "Sana-Sol". Many thanks for helping our
children.
28.05.99 Web site http://www.sos.ru/ is launched (for everyone in need of
help and everyone who can help).
18.05.99 In the near time SOS.RU project will be launched (for everyone in need of help and all who can help).
For the time being, we invite you to take part in the discussion on this project in the news conference
http://www.sos.ru/
10.05.99 At the moment, all problems related to blood availability for Frantishka Pavlovskaya have been resolved!
9.05.99 Tanya Sholokhova and Kristina Kupreyeva were operated for bone marrow transplantation.
The operations were successful, but it is too early to speak of results.
The doctors say that Vanya Scherbenev's bone marrow has completely adapted after
the transplantation operation of two months ago!
21.03.99 The transplantation of bone marrow was performed in Russia on children with
immune deficiencies were for the first time. At the moment, it can be ascertained
that the operation was successful for Vanya Shcherbenev and Alesha Pavlov , and the donor bone marrow has taken. The children feel normal, they are cheerful, active, gaining weight,
have an excellent appetite. However, further analyses are required to evaluate the transplantation efficiency.
New information will be available, at least, in two weeks, while surgery results may remain unclear up to 120 days.
16.03.99 The money, required to purchase drugs for Marianna's treatment, has been collected. Her health improved significantly, and the girl is released home for outpatient therapy.
4.03.99 Natal’ya has donated $200 for to the Hematology Department. Sterile masks will be purchased with this money.
17.02.99 Vanya Shcherbenev and Alesha Pavlov have undergone a bone marrow transplantationation. The surgery results will be clear in about three weeks.
1.02.99 The letter from Sergey Krzhizhanovsky: «At the moment, Borya is in Kiev. He will go to Germany on February 8. We were under physicians' observation in the Kiev Hematology Clinic. Many thanks to the physicians for support and especially to Professor Drozdova and her assistant Sergey! I’ve got 1500 grivna (equivalent of $420) as a clearing transaction from Kalibrist Company (Kiev). Many thanks!»
26.01.99 Konstantin from USA donated $200 to the Hematology Department. The money was spent for on purchasing catheters, which allowed to minimize the number of punctures of children’s veins.
23.01.99 Dear Gentlemen:
We would like to express our gratitude for your letters and offers of help. Unfortunately, help from abroad was a very irregular occurenceasion, and every time we looked for a special way of receiving the money offered. Now we get offers more often, and we try to find a way how to receive your money without unduly high taxes. Various options are under consideration, and we hope that the problem will be solved in the nearest future. On behalf of the charity group after Father Alexander Men’, we thank all of you.
21.01.99 The physicians and parents, related to the General Hematology Department, thank the staff of the Moscow News newspaper for 5,600 syringes of a 5, 10 or 20 ml volume, which were purchased for the entire department. This will last for 1.5 months. Also, many thanks to Larisa, whose money was spent to purchase 700 droppers.
