Orphans who have undergone treatment within the You Are Not Alone program

 Orphans who have been adopted

23.08.2008 Vika V., 16 years old, is from Chukotka. She is to be examined at the Diagnostic Department. This quiet and serious girl is presently in her 10th grade. She studies with interest and dreams of becoming an economist. Her hobbies are embroidering and scanwords.
10.09.2008 Vika has been discharged after a complete examination. She has received detailed recommendations for further treatment at a local clinic.

29.07.2008 A new patient of the Department of Urology is Lyuda R., 2.5 years old, from the Kursk orphanage. The girl will be examined, and then the doctors will decide on surgical treatment or other methods. Lyuda is charming, tender and shy.
1.08.2008 Lyuda was discharged after an examination, which showed that the girl does not need surgical treatment, only care and control. She will arrive for a check-up three months later.

25.07.2008 Tanya L., a ten-year-old girl from Chukotka, was admitted to the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics. She is very quiet and self-reliant, yet at the same time sociable and friendly. The medical staff and other children at the department immediately got to like her very much.
10.09.2008 Tanya has been discharged from hospital. The doctors are expecting her to arrive for a check-up and maybe for follow-up treatment six months later.
25.07.2008 Yan Z. (13 years old), also from Chukotka, is at the Department of Nephrology. The boy likes reading (especially encyclopedias) and drawing.
18.08.2008 Yan Z. has been discharged after an examination and conservative treatment. He has already returned to Chukotka. Fortunately, some of his earlier diagnoses proved to be wrong. The boy is feeling all right.
25.07.2008 A two-year-boy from the Belgorod region was admitted to the Department of Microvascular Surgery. His name is Maxim Z., and he is accompanied by a nurse. He is a serious and smart boy, speaks very well and calls his nurse "mummy." When he first visited us, he shouted, "Mummy, look, it's a church!" It turned out that the his orphanage is located near a church, where priests are always glad to see the kids.
6.08.2008 Maxim is recovering after the surgery. The doctors and the entire staff got to admire and respect the boy very much. He had a very large mole on his back, and its removal required serious surgical intervention. Recovering after such a surgery requires a long time and can be difficult. But the tiny boy is very patient and sensible, obeys all the doctors' orders, does not cry when they change his dressings, and in general copes very well. After his back is healed, he will have no health problems.
20.12.2008 Maxim has arrived at the hospital for a check-up. It is possible that yet another corrective operation will be needed.
2.02.2009 Congratulations: Maxim has a new family now! His new parents have been allowed to take him from hospital. He will be officially adopted very soon.
15.07.2008 A three-year-old boy from Magadan, named Kirill Sh., accompanied by a nurse, has been admitted to the Department of Otolaryngology. The boy is very active and curious. He is to have an operation.

22.07.2008 Kirill's surgical intervention has taken place, and now he will need Roferon A (Intron A, a type of interferon) for maintenance therapy. We are starting special fundraising for Kirill.
6.08.2008 The amount of Intron A sufficient for three months has been bought for Kirill (unfortunately, on credit, because the fundraising campaign for his benefit is not very successful so far). He has been allowed to go back to Magadan, where he will receive injections of this drug, which must prevent new growth of papillomas in his larynx. His next surgery at our hospital will take place in November. The boy is to receive intensive treatment with Intron for at least one year, and then maintenance courses for a long time. Otherwise, surgical treatment will be meaningless: growth of papillomas is recurrent, and the child may suffocate. Please help the boy!
14.11.2008 Kirill Sh. has returned to the Department of Otolaryngology after an interferon therapy course at the place of residence. The child underwent surgery at once, and now interferon treatment will be continued.
21.11.2008 After an operation at the Department of Otolaryngology, Kirill Sh. went to his native city, Magadan. We have bought him the amount of Interferon sufficient till the next admission to hospital (which is to take place 4 months later).
19.03.2009 Kirill Sh. has arrived for follow-up treatment. He had a surgical operation today, and he is going to his orphanage on Monday, March 22. The amount of Roferon A worth 91,800 roubles ($2740) has been bought for the next four months of medicinal therapy.

15.07.2008 Katya N., 13 months old, from the Tver region, was admitted to the Department of Neurosurgery and immediately underwent an operation there.

12.08.2008 Katya is recovering after the second surgery. The doctors are satisfied with the results of her treatment and say that Katya's chances are very good. Katya is everybody's favorite at the department: this pretty and affectionate girl meets everybody with smiles and singing. He intellectual development is normal for her age, she loves playing both with adults and other children, and she never cries during treatment.
22.08.2008 Katya has been discharged from hospital after the surgery in much better condition. Her muscles have become much stronger. Now she can move freely and sit down without difficulty. She is to arrive for follow-up treatment half a year later.
6.04.2009 Yesterday Katya N. arrived at the Department of Neurosurgery for a follow-up consultation. The physicians say that the remote results of the surgery are moderately fine. However, unfortunately, presently it is impossible to eliminate the congenital anomaly and its consequences completely.

15.07.2008 Two news girls from Kostroma were admitted to the hospital: Nadya K. (17 y.o.) is at the Department of Traumatology, and Larisa G. (16 y.o.) is at the Department of Gynecology. Both girls are independent and serious. They are already receiving special education: Nadya will be a designer. They asked us not to take their photographs.
25.07.2008 Larisa was discharged after a short course of treatment; Nadya is still at the hospital.
10.09.2008 Nadya has successfully completed her treatment. Plaster has been removed, and now she can walk without crutches and continue her education. She will be all right.
15.07.2008 Igor S. and Dima D. were admitted to the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery from a specialized orphanage in Elatma, Ryazan region. Our nurse takes care of the boys.
25.07.2008 Igor and Dima have had their surgeries.
1.08.2008 The boys have recovered and left the hospital.
25.06.2008 A new patient of the Department of Neurosurgery is Anna M. (15 years old) from the Shuya orphanage. Anna smiles a lot and tells everybody about her life in the orphanage.
1.08.2008 Anna has had a successful neurosurgery. This intervention has very long and difficult, but it was necessary for the girl's survival. In general, such interventions in cases like Anna's should be performed at an early age, when they do not lead to such serious problems. Fortunately, our surgeons were not too late.
19.08.2008 Anna is successfully recovering after the surgery. The doctors are satisfied with her condition, and Anna herself is more than happy!
The girl's diagnosis is congenital craniocerebral hernia. It is not just a grave cosmetic defect but also a life-threatening condition. This congenital disorder (fortunately, very rare) sometimes induces malinformed parents to abandon such a child right after birth. Neither the parents nor, often, the staff of maternity hospitals know that surgical intervention at an early age eliminates this defect completely and the child can subsequently develop like any normal kid. Anna's case shows that the staff of orphanages may also be ignorant of the fact that surgical treatment of this disorder is quite efficient and must be performed without delay.

Anna has allowed us to publish her photographs before and after the surgery. Soon the doctors will take off her bandages and she will become very pretty.
12.09.2008 Anna M., very happy now, has been discharged from hospital. She went home with a lot of presents from the foundation, from volunteers, and from mothers of other children at her department, who supported the girl during the treatment.
11.11.2008 Yesterday Anna M. was urgently transported to the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital by ambulance from the Ivanovo region. The girl had a sudden deterioration of vision. Considering her grave diagnosis and recent extremely complicated cranial operation, the doctors in Ivanovo decided to direct Anna to Moscow at once. She has been admitted to the Department of Neurosurgery.
21.11.2008 The condition of Anna M. has stabilized. She is feeling more or less satisfactory. The girl is at the Department of Neurosurgery, and her favorite nurse Lyuba is taking care of her.
31.12.2008 Before the New Year holidays, Anna was allowed to return to her orphanage. Neurologists, neurosurgeons, and rehabilitation specialists from our hospital have given detailed recommendations on further care. If necessary, the girl will return to Moscow at once.
25.06.2008 Sasha F. (12 years old) from the Tula region was admitted to the Department of Urology. Sasha's mother died a year ago, and he has been at an orphanage since then. In general, he is a home-bred, quiet, and polite boy. He is two elder brothers, but his only grown-up brother is in the army now. He reads a lot and plays with construction sets. Also, he is an ardent football fan and dreams of having a real ball and boots for playing this game.
15.07.2008 After a course of conservative therapy, Sasha was discharged and provided with recommendations concerning further medicinal treatment. The doctors will decide on the surgery a year later.
25.06.2008 A boy from the Shuya orphanage was admitted to the Department of Traumatology. Denis K. (16 years old) wants to become a computer professional and later get a good job. He reads interesting books, listens to music and even embroiders.
19.08.2008 Denis recently had his long-awaited surgery. Although he is still in plaster and will go through a long rehabilitation course, the doctor's words, "You will stand up and leave your wheelchair" sound like the sweetest music to him. He is already willing to have his own crutches, but it is impossible to measure him and choose the right size, because the boy is covered with plaster from toes to armpits.
30.09.2008 Denis has been discharged from hospital. Unfortunately, his treatment and rehabilitation have not yet lead to expected results (Denis has a grave congenital disorder). Now the doctors are deciding on his further treatment, possibly abroad.
25.04.2009 Denis K. has again arrived at the hospital. Last year he was operated at the Department of Traumatology, and now he will undergo another operation at the Department of Microvascular Surgery.
12.06.2009 After treatment at the hospital department, Denis was transferred to our new rehabilitation center. Soon he is to undergo a surgical intervention at another hospital in Moscow. Presently he needs a wheelchair (for adults).
20.10.2009 Excellent news about Denis. When he recovered after his final surgery by the end of summer, it became clear that the physicians' hopes had been quite justified. It was the first time that Denis could stand on his own legs! In September, he arrived at the new rehabilitation center, and now he is learning to move about on his own.
And yesterday Denis turned 17. See photographs of this celebration below.

5.03.2010 Denis K. has left the hospital after long surgical treatment and rehabilitation. He will come to Moscow for further rehabilitation in April, but this time to another hospital.

9.06.2008 Two boys from the Smolensk orphanage have been admitted for an examination: Serezha T. (2 years 8 months old) and Denis M. (2 years 6 months old). The children are at the Diagnostic Department.
3.06.3008 A tiny two-month-old boy has appeared at the Department of Urology. He is Dima R. from Kursk. The boy is quite active and smiles all the time.
7.06.2008 Dima has already had the planned surgery, and presently he is feeling all right.
25.06.2008 Dima has left the hospital. He will arrive for a check-up (and for the next surgery, if necessary) in half a year.
27.05.2008 Dima A. (15 years old) from Shuya has been admitted to the Department of Medical Genetics. He is a quiet and independent young man.
31.05.2008 Fortunately, Dima's examination at our hospital did not confirm the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis.
9.05.2008 Veronika P. from the Tula region has been admitted to the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery. The girl has a very serious facial deformation.
14.11.2008 Veronika has arrived for follow-up treatment. The girl will have a complex operation on her skull bones, and a skull model made of plastic has already been ordered for it. Our nurse takes care of the girl.
21.01.2009 Veronika was discharged after a difficult operation on her skull bones, which was successful. The head physician of her orphanage was amazed by the professional skill of our surgeons and by the results of their work.
26.08.2009 Veronika has been admitted to hospital for the next stage of surgical treatment. She will undergo a follow-up surgical intervention on September 30 (a distraction appliance will be set on her skull bones). After an examination at the hospital department, the girl will be directed to our new rehabilitation center for orphan patients, where she will be getting prepared for the operation.
20.01.2010 Veronika has successfully completed the next stage of her surgical treatment and returned to her orphanage. The surgeons' skilful hands have made her a normal face (for 1.5 years we could not even place her photograph here, and only now you can look at her!), and we hope that she will become very pretty when everything is over. Moreover: this treatment has not only corrected serious visible defects but also normalized the child's respiration and vision. Now Veronika will be able to speak and develop as any normal child should.
14.05.2008 Vova D.(2.3 years old) from the Smolensk orphanage has been admitted to the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery.
15.05.2008 The boy has undergone an operation.
27.05.2008 Vova has completely recovered after a successful surgery. He is already at his orphanage in Smolensk.
13.05.2008 Polina F. from Odintsovo (Moscow region) was admitted to the Department of Endocrinology.
15.05.2008 Polina was discharged after relevant treatment.
14.05.2008 Little Lera B. (2 years old) from Arkhangelsk was admitted to the Thoracic Department for a medical examination. She will probably have an operation.
7.06.1008 Lera has had her operation.
13.05.2008 Masha Z., a girl of eight from the Orel region, was admitted to the Thoracic Department. The physicians are deciding if she needs surgical intervention. Although the girl is quite sociable, she still feels ill at ease at the hospital and misses her orphanage.
15.05.2008 Masha had an operation, which was successful.
3.06.2008 Masha has recovered after her surgery and left the hospital.
14.05.2008 New patients of the Department of Rehabilitation are Serezha V. (4 years old) and Ksenia L. (8 months old). They are accompanied by a nurse from their orphanage in the Vladimir region.
6.06.2008 Ksenia and Serezha have been discharged from hospital.
14.05.2008 Kolya L., a seven-year-old boy from Sergiev Posad (Moscow region) has been admitted to the Department of Ophthalmology. The boy has almost lost vision. He was a great fan of Lego sets before this tragedy, but now he will never clearly see the small pieces of his favorite toy... He dreams of a Geomag magnetic construction toy, which is quite suitable for him.

27.05.2008 Kolya L. was discharged after an examination at the Department of Ophthalmology. The physicians hope that it will be possible to perform surgical treatment so that the boy could see at least with one eye; the prospects of further treatment are under discussion. Please pray for this nice and kind boy!

14.05.2008 Two small kids from the Tver region have been admitted to the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery. For Alena Kh. (2 years 11 months old), it will be a follow-up examination; for Vladik Sh. (1 year 10 months old), the first medical examination. The children are from the same orphanage. Alena, as an "experienced friend", touchingly looks after the younger child.
3.06.2008 Vladik has been discharged from hospital after a detailed examination. The first stage of surgical treatment is planned for the autumn of 2008.
13.12.2008 Vladik has been admitted to hospital for an operation.
2.02.2009 Vladik Sh. has been discharged from hospital, but he cannot return to his orphanage, because he needs a lot of care and attention after his difficult operation. Even minor injuries can be dangerous, and they cannot be avoided at an orphanage. So Vladik is presently undergoing rehabilitation at our House of Hope cottage.
15.03.2009 Vladik has been discharged after the surgery and rehabilitation. The physicians are more than satisfied with his condition.
23.04.2008 Nastya T. (17 years old) from the Vologda region has been admitted to the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetology. She is a smart and serious girl, studying to be an agricultural worker. She is interesting in embroidering, batik, and window painting.
18.05.2008 Nastya was discharged after completion of her treatment.
23.04.2008 Angelina Z. from the town of Aleksin is four years old. This girl is a patient of the Department of Traumatology.
28.05.2008 Angelina Z. was discharged from hospital today, on her birthday. The girl will arrive for follow-up tratment half a year later. This merry and restless girl was reluctant to part with her new friends and wonderful doctors from the Department of Traumatology.
14.07.2008 Angelina arrived at the Department of Traumatology for a three-day check-up.
18.10.2008 Angelina has been admitted for follow-up treatment at the Department of Traumatology. She will have to wear a bone extension appliance for many weeks. However, she is not disturbed by this fact at all. The child is quick and active, just as always.
13.12.2008 Angelina has been allowed to leave hospital for a few weeks with the extension appliance still on her arm. She will be back after the New Year and Christmas.
23.04.2008 Alena K. (3 years old) from the Penza region has been admitted to the Department of Traumatology.
25.06.2008 Alena was discharged after an examination. The doctors have provided detailed recommendations on her treatment by local physicians for the next year, and afterwards it will be possible to decide on future surgery.
23.04.2008 Alesha U., a boy of nine from the far-away city of Ulan-Ude, has arrived at the Rehabilitation Department. The boy is curious, smart and sociable. He is keen on studying and reading.
14.05.2008 Alexei went home after a rehabilitation course. The physicians are expecting him to arrive for follow-up treatment in September.
/ 23.04.2008 Two charming boys from Kursk have been admitted to the Department of Traumatology. They are Sasha K. (two years old, see left photo) and Andrei S. (three years old).
6.06.2008 Andrei and Sasha have recovered after follow-up surgical treatment and left the Department of Traumatology. During their stay at the hospital, both boys have become the volunteers' and the doctors' favorites. Andrei is smart and curious, Sasha is serious and quiet, but both are equally charming. We were reluctant to part with them.

23.04.2008 Valya O., a girl of four from the Tula region, has been admitted to the Department of Traumatology.
15.05.2008 Valya has had her surgery.
13.02.2009 Valya's treatment has been completed. And her life will change very soon: our charming and mischievous red-haired girl, everybody's favorite at her hospital department, will go to France with her new father and mother!
Kolya Marina 4.04.2008 Three small kids from the Penza region have been admitted to the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery. They are Kolya S. (3 years old), Marina K. (20 months old), and Alena A. (4 years old; we didn't take her photograph, because she has a grave facial deformation). The children are accompanied by the head physician of their orphanage, who heard a lot about our hospital and foundation from people who accompanied Elvira A. to our hospital last autumn. He was pleased to see the kind and attentive attitude to orphan patients at our hospital.
Kolya has his surgery right after the children's arrival. The photograph shows him after lip correction, and now he should only wait till the scar is healed. The boy is very nice.
18.03.2008 A boy of eight months from the town of Fryanovo (Moscow region) was admitted to the Department of Neurosurgery. His name is Igor K.
14.05.2008 Igor recovered after his successful operation and was discharged from hospital.
1.10.2008 Igor was admitted to the Department of Neurosurgery for a check-up.
21.11.2008 Igor was discharged after an examination. He is more or less all right, an active and lively boy.
