Head of the Department of Endoscopic Surgery A.V. Myzin
has asked our foundation for financial aid in purchase of instruments:
"Specialists of the Department of Endoscopic Surgery, Russian Children's Clinical
Hospital, annually perform over 150 surgical operations for resection of neoplasms
in gastrointestinal and respiratory pathways.
An original technique for radical intraluminal resection of tracheal and bronchial
neoplasms (polyps, adenomata, carcinoids) has been developed. This method enables us to perform complete
resection of the neoplasms without traumatic operations.
The traditional approach is as follows: the thoracic cavity is opened, then the lumen of the
trachea or bronchus is also opened, part of the brochus or a lung lobe is often removed (about 40% cases).
The recovery after such an operation takes a long time (about 1 month), and sometimes the
intervention even leads to some kind of disability.
In the case of endoscopic removal of neoplasms, the preoperative preparations are minimal, and the
child can be discharged from hospital on the 2nd or 3rd day after the operation. The most important thing
about such an operation is that it is organ-sparing.
However, to perform endoscopic removal of tracheal and bronchial neoplasms, we
need endoscopic snares SD-7P-1, SD-8P-1 and a balloon catheter B5-2C. The total
cost of these instruments is about 60,000 roubles ($2000)."
