My daughter Alexandra Gorobets is 15 years old.
She is a smart and kind girl, with a real talent for music. She gets
only excellent grades at school, loves drawing and photography.
My girl was admitted to the cardiological department of the Orel
Regional Pediatric Hospital in February 2008. She was in grave condition,
but the doctors could not diagnose the reason for it. She felt
progressively worse, and finally she had to be taken to the
Russian Children's Clinical Hospital in Moscow by an emergency service.
The physicians in Moscow saved the child and diagnosed
her condition: systemic lupus erythematosus.
After several courses of chemotherapy, Alexandra now
needs immunosuppressive therapy with CellCept or
Myfortic. If she does not take these drugs regularly,
the disease will develop further and lead to irreversible
consequences. However, these drugs are not included in
the standard list of medications that can be provided to
patients with systemic lupus erythematosis free of charge.
And we just cannot buy them ourselves: I raise my daughter
all by myself, my monthly income is about $200, and one
month of CellCept therapy will cost 18,000 roubles (about $560)!
We cannot cope without your help.
My daughter is dreaming of becoming healthy again. She
wants to get rid of her disease and to devote her life
to music, to become a pianist and a composer some time.
With hope and gratitude,
Olga Gorobets
The doctor's comment
Alexandra I. Gorobets, 15 years old,
was a patient of the Department of Clinical Immunology. Diagnosis:
systemic lupus erythematosis, activity grade 1-2, relapse of
myopericarditis, symptomatic arterial hypertension.
The child vitally needs
long-term (at least 12 months) immunosuppressive therapy
with CellCept 750 mg x 3 times daily or Myfortic 720 mg x 2 times daily.
Without this therapy, there is a danger of disease progression, development
of irreversible consequences and chronic cardiac insufficiency.

We whole-heartedly thank German, who immediately responded to this letter.
Thanks to his large donation, the amount of the drug sufficient
for a seven-month course of therapy has been bought. For the time being,
we are interrupting the fundraising for Alexandra's benefit. We will
resume it when (and if) it becomes necessary.
