Dear friends!
I, the mother of Rafil Hafizov, have to ask you a great favor. My
son needs a hearing aid. He lost his hearing three years ago.
When Rafil was five, he fell ill with chronic glomerulonephritis,
which gradually passed into chronic renal insufficiency.
We had to start hemodialysis, but Rafil had a stroke on
February 11, 1999. The doctors did everything possible
to save his life; they removed a hematoma in the
left parietal region, but still there was very little
hope that my son would live. But, thank God, my prayers
were not in vain. He survived. But he lost his memory
after the operation, forgot the words "bread" and
"water," even forgot the word "mommy" and called me
"daddy." The whole right side of his body was paralyzed.
I spend many days and nights almost without sleeping,
massaged him constantly, and the doctors were amazed
to see Rafil eating his soup and holding the spoon
in his right hand. His memory also gradually
returned to him, he learned to read and write again.
After the stroke, we had to turn to peritoneal
dialysis, but peritonitis suddenly began.
To save Rafil, the doctors administered Gentamicin
to him for 14 days; at the 15th day, he went deaf.
His life was in danger, and it was impossible
to concentrate on the ears.
In July 2001, we came to the Russian Children's
Clinical Hospital, and Rafil underwent kidney transplantation
on November 26. Now he is recovering, the kidney is
functioning well, and he is eager to hear and talk
to others. He is very sociable, in spite of being deaf;
he is never dull and always surrounded by
many friends.
My son went through so much suffering, had four
clinical deaths, but God allowed him to live in this
world. Please let him hear this world now. He needs
a hearing aid, which costs 961 USD. I have no
such sum and set my hopes only on your kindness and help.
