This is a plea to everybody who can do something for us.
Please help us!
We have a terrible grief. My little son Valera, a four-year-old
boy, is gravely ill. Valera is a lively, playful, merry,
and sociable child. He likes studying, reciting verse, drawing,
and cycling. He laughs in such a clear and merry voice.
But our normal life ended a year and a half ago, in June 2001.
Valera was vaccinated in his day-care center. Three days later,
he developed a high fever and rash. It turned out that he
fell ill with rubella. In a week, the fever rose to 41 C (105.8 F),
and his joints were swollen. We tried to treat him in three
hospitals of three towns: Prokhladnyi, Nalchik, and Essentuki.
But nobody could help us or even diagnose the disease. At the
end of August of 2001, we took a bus, went to the regional
children's hospital in the city of Stavropol, and at last
learned Valera's diagnosis: Wissler-Fanconi subsepsis. This is
a disease of the connective tissue. The doctors in Stavropol
prescribed hormonal drugs, and Valera's condition improved.
The fever lessened, the rash disappeared, and the joints
were no longer swollen.
But our joy was brief. The boy's condition again became worse
in March 2002. Again very high fever, rash, and swollen joints.
We were admitted to a town hospital in Nalchik but received
no real help there again. So I asked the doctors to refer
us to Moscow and finally took my child to the Immunology
Department of the RCCH, where we have been under treatment
up to now. Valera's disease was diagnosed here: juvenile
rheumatoid arthritis, systemic form. This disease affects
virtually the whole organism, all its systems.
Since Valera fell ill, he has been receiving various medicines:
hormonal, chemical, antibodies, etc., but there is no positive
effect. We tried to treat him using various folk remedies,
but there was no success either. For the last six months,
Valera has been having a constant high fever of 40-41 C (104-105 F)
and pains in his joints. His suffering is undescribable. But
now a new drug has appeared, and one course of this medicine
will make Valera healthy again. It is called Remicade (Infliximab).
It must be administered for one year according to the
following scheme: one vial, then another vial two weeks
later, then yet another six weeks later, and then one
vial every eight weeks. One vial costs 770 USD. We cannot
buy such an expensive medicine ourselves. Valera's father
left the family when our boy was 18 months. But we hope
for the best and believe that kind and compassionate people
will help my son to get well - there is just a single step
to be done for his recovery! Please help us. Maybe the
health of my little son depends on you and you will
save him so that his merry laugh won't stop.
Thank you very much for supporting us!
