Eugene Yakovlev

News

19.02.2007 Eugene Yakovlev died on February 18. He had not responded to treatment. He spent his last weeks at home, with his parents.

24.12.2006 Head of the Department of Oncohematology-27 Natalia V. Myakova tells:
"Unfortunately, Eugene Yakovlev has had reactivation of his disease during the therapy after the attainment of remission. The disease is aggressive and refractory with respect to the therapy. So, unfortunately, marrow transplantation is no longer considered in this case."

11.10.2006 Head of the Department of Oncohematology-27 Dr. Natalia V. Myakova tells about the condition of Eugene Yakovlev:
"Eugene Yakovlev is in remission. The blood for HLA matching will be sent to Germany in the nearest few days. And so far the boy still receives maintenance therapy and waits for an unrelated transplantation."

Eugene Yakovlev

We hope that you are not indifferent to other people's troubles. Please read our story!
My name is Irina Yakovleva. My son Eugene (Zhenya) is 11 years old. We live in the Saratov region, town of Balakovo. In December 2005, we learned my son's terrible diagnosis: acute lymphocytic leukemia. I nearly fainted with shock and grief. We were directed to the Saratov Hematology Hospital. The results of the tests were awful: for example, the boy's WBC count was 478 thousand, while the normal range is from 2 to 10 thousand. We were told that we had two weeks for improvement, and I saw how my son struggled for hus health. And he succeeded. After seven months of treatment, we were allowed to go home. But... two weeks later, we saw that his lymph nodes were enlarged. And the same nightmare began again. The diagnosis was leukemia, very early relapse with lesion of the bone marrow, and we were directed to the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital in Moscow. We were admitted there on August 10, 2006. Now we are facing a very difficult task: first my child must reach remission and then have marrow transplantation. Zhenya is an only child, and so we need an unrelated donor, but search for such a donor costs a lot. The only thing I can do now is to ask for your help. Please help us!

Yours respectfully,
Irina V. Yakovleva

The doctor's comment

Eugene (Zhenya) Yakovlev, aged 11, is a patient of the Department of Oncohematology-27. His diagnosis is acute lymphocytic leukemia, type T2, first very early isolated medullary relapse. The boy was admitted to the RCCH for anti-relapse treatment.
Considering to type of leukemia and the early relapse, the child needs allogeneic marrow transplantation from an unrelated donor.
Search for an unrelated donor and his/her activation cost 15,000 euro.
