11.07.2002 We have sad news. Three children died:
Danila Perepelkin, Igor Kotov, and Igor Abramov.
All of them suffered very much, and it was painful
to look at their slow agony. Although their condition
was very grave, it was still necessary to do
everything for their support, and the doctors
did all that was possible.
Doctors from the Russian Children's Clinical
Hospital heroically fought for Danila Perepelkin's
life, and then, during the last year, doctors from
Switzerland and Israel also took care of him.
Danila was invited to a course of treatment free of
charge, but the terrible illness, immunodeficiency,
had already gone too far, and only palliative help
was possible. When Danila came back to Russia,
many compassionate people donated a lot of money
for the medicines that could support his life.
Although Danila was just a little boy, he was
also a very remarkable and gifted person. Everybody
who knew him felt deep respect and sympathy for him.
The same could be said about Igor Kotov. He had a
very serious disease, mucoviscidosis, and he bore
it very courageously. During the last months, Igor
was already a patient of a hospital for grown-ups
and hoped that he would be able to pass the
critical age - that of 18 years. After this age, people
can live with this disease. All of us hoped for the
same.
And the third loss is Igor Abramov, who died from
cancer. Unfortunately, marrow transplantation failed
to save Igor. He was a very kind, open-hearted,
and merry boy, and his death is a great loss and pain
for all of us. We don't know which words can console
his parents, who are now alone with their grief,
but we want to support them at least in our hearts and
only hope that God will not leave them.
4.04.00 An anonimous donor paid for a oxygen-concentrator for Igor Kotov, which cost $2,382. The price was reduced because the firm "Craft Medical Systems" sold it for Igor at a discount.
