My
name is Nina Shvets, and Nicole is under my foster care. She is 14 now, and in 2006 it turned
out that she had diabetes mellitus. She has been under observation at the Russian Children's
Clinical Hospital since 2007. The course of the disease is unstable, and it is difficult
to adjust the insulin dosage. This means that an insulin pump is vitally important. Such a pump
imitates the work of pancreas, helps compensate diabetes, and regulates the supply of insulin.
The basic dose of the drug is administered once a hour, and the child does not have to get 5 injections
every day. The work of the device does not depend on food intake, and the child can skip a
meal without glucose level elevation. Also, she can be out of home without danger of diabetic coma
owing to insulin shortage or overdose.
I raise Nicole all by myself since 2005. The cost of the pump together with
consumables is about 90,000 roubles ($3000), and I have no such sum. Please help
us buy this vitally necessary device!
Yours respectfully,
Nina N. Shvets
The doctor's comment
Patient Nicole Zh. Manko, b. 1996, was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (type 1)
3.5 years ago. Her case is characterized by marked instability of glycemia; therefore, it is difficult
to choose the insulin doses, and pump therapy is recommended. The child is under foster care.
The family needs help in buying an insulin pump with consumables.
