13 year old, Zhenya Privalov has been at the RDKB since July 17th
17.03.2005 Zhenya Privalov, whom we have been supporting for a long time, is again in hospital: he will have to spend three months in plaster. He was successfully equipped: in addition to various clothes for the spring, he was also given a sheepskin coat that was just his size.

24.02.2004 Dear friends,
we know that many of you are concerned about Zhenya Privalov's destiny. We have already written that Zhenya must undergo operations on his joints. So far there has been only an operation on one leg. But Zhenya will be able to start walking only after an operation on the other leg as well, and the doctors think it can be done only a year later. So ortheses are not yet necessary. But, thanks to your help, we have bought a new and very light folding wheelchair produced by Maira Co. (29,384 roubles). Zhenya's old wheelchair is completely broken, and this one is just what he dreamed about.
Zhenya will spend this year in his new family. Tatiana and Dmitri, his adoptive parents, saw information about Zhenya's destiny in a TV show last spring and decided to help the boy. They came from a northern town of Ukhta to see Zhenya, and the boy spent the entire summer at their home as a guest. It turned out that Zhenya is very keen on helping in various houseold chores. He can even work with a vacuum cleaner while remaining in his wheelchair.
Tatiana, Zhenya's new mother, is a teacher of music and a singer at a church chorus; Dmitri, the father, teaches at the university. They have three children. The elder boy is a cadet at the Suvorov military school; Xenia, a 13-year-old girl, plays the violen. The youngest child is Masha, who is four. She is a favorite with everybody, and Zhenya also likes her very much. It is strange but they even look alike. When representatives of the children's guardianship commission came to see how the boy lives in this family, little Masha sat down on his wheelchair, embraced Zhenya and asked, "Hope you won't take him away?"
Now Tatiana and Dmitri have definitely decided that Zhenya will live in their family. They took him to their home and started filling all the documents. In addition, there is a rehabilitation health center near Ukhta. This summer, Zhenya already spent some time at this center, and now he will receive the necessary exercises and treatment there.
So Zhenya's life has taken a happy turn at last. If anybody wants to write to him or to support Zhenya and his parents, we have got his address.

20.10.2003 Zhenya Privalov was examined by the doctors. They decided that an operation on his hip joints is already possible. Hence, Zhenya will be transferred to the Department of Orthopedy and Traumatology. But he will still need ortheses and a corset after the operation, so we are still raising funds to help Zhenya.

01.10.2003 Vika and Sergei paid 15,000 roubles for Zhenya Privalov's corset and ortheses.

23.09.2003 Vladimir donated 200 USD for Zhenya Privalov's ortheses.

28.07.2003 Annarosa Pollini transferred 100 USD for Zhenya via the online credit card system.

11.06.2003 Irakli Sikharulidze transferred 6500 roubles for Zhenya via the online credit card system.

30.05.2003 Z transferred 100 USD for Zhenya via the online credit card system.

28.05.2003 Olga Andreeva transferred 50 USD for Zhenya Privalov via the online credit card system.

28.05.2003 The doctors of the department that has been hosting Zhenya Privalov for two years are now asking everybody to help Zhenya by buying him a corset and ortheses. Zhenya's achievements are good: he has already risen from his wheelchair and is learning to walk using special walkers. However, he cannot yet fully straighten his legs, and therefore he needs ortheses with a corset. He will walk on them during daytime and do the exercises prescribed by specialists from the Rehabilitation Department.

The ortheses cost 34,100 roubles.

27.3.2002 The doctors of the Department of Microvascular Surgery told us about Zhenya Privalov's condition. After a neurostimulator was implanted, the huge trophic ulcers on his spine and heel closed completely, and the legs can bend now since they are no longer swollen. Now he is capable of controlling urination by himself, although so far he is sometimes reluctant to do this. The doctors believe that the stimulator allowed Zhenya to achieve a significant progress in a very short time. Physiotherapy would produce the same effect in 12-18 months, if not more. Now Zhenya needs rehabilitation, and soon he will go to a rehabilitation sanatorium in Gorki.

16.10.2001 An anonymous benefactor transferred $200 for Zhenya.
Tatyana paid the remaining 27000 Rubles to buy neurostimulator for Zhenya Privalov and also bough him a wheel-chair.

12.10.2001 Nadezhda Petrovna and her friends paid $500 towards buying a stimulator for Zhenya, while an anonymous benefactor transferred $100 for him.

Zhenya is originally from an orphanage in the Tver region. In November 2000, Zhenya ran away from the orphanage where the other children made fun of him. For a month Zhenya lived on the streets and begged to try and get to Moscow. On the way to Moscow, Zhenya was seriously beaten up by another homeless person. He was beaten so badly that he had no feeling in his legs. The person who did this to Zhenya fortunately did not just leave him there to die in the snow. He took him to a storage area and brought him food once a day. Sometimes he washed Zhenya and other times he again beat him and yelled at him. This is how Zhenya lived for four months. How Zhenya did not freeze to death during this time still remains a mystery.

In April Zhenya was found and brought and taken to a hospital where he remained for four months. In July Zhenya was transferred to the RDKB for treatment. When he arrived he was in very bad condition, he had an insufficient blood supply to his spinal cord, buttocks and legs. The poor boy had lost the use of his legs due to brain trauma during the attack and from not using his legs for so long his right leg was almost twice the size of the left leg. All of the specialists at the RDKB have actively taken part in Zhenya's recovery and now is condition is much better.

During the time that Zhenya has been at the RDKB he has became more calm, the pain from the infections have decreased and no the infections themselves are almost gone. The lymphatic paralysis has disappeared. Zhenya at last has begun to smile, read and play with other kids his age and is now no longer afraid of the Doctors. Much has been done for Zhenya already but there is yet much more that needs to be done and that is why this child needs your assistance. Zhenya will need to be treated for a long time so that he will become self-sufficient. In order to do this Zhenya needs a spinal stimulator now as "Neuroelect PB4000". The cost of this equipment is 42000 rubles and without any family to pay for this Zhenya is left at the mercy of strangers to ensure his future.

We ask anyone who can help to please help Zhenya raise the money that his future so depends on.
