24.12.2006 Head of the Department of Oncohematology-27
Natalia V. Myakova tells:
"Sergei Simonov and his
mother returned from Berlin on December 21. Although at first they
went there only for an examination, the boy also had surgery. The
residual tumor was completely removed. On December 23, they went
home to celebrate New Year. His mother has already learned to smile
again. She thanks everybody who has helped Serezha."

Head of the Department of Oncohematology-27 Dr. Natalia V. Myakova
tells about the condition of Sergei Simonov:
"Sergei Simonov has had marrow
autotransplantation. The hematopoiesis is already restored. But, unfortunately,
the tumor has not disappeared completely. Standard therapy cannot do any more.
Now the physician is thinking about the possibilities of alternative treatment.
Sergei is feeling more or less fine. He mostly stays at home."

My name is Olga Simonova, and my son's name is Sergei. He was born in
1994. Since January 2006, he has been at the Department of
Oncohematology-27. His diagnosis is Burkitt's lymphoma, stage 4.
Sergei is a bright and talented boy. He received only excellent and good
grades at school and played football a lot. He had chances of becoming a
professional football player, maybe even a football star. But the
terrible disease has interrupted everything in a moment.
Sergei has already received the complete course of chemotherapy, which
consists of seven cycles, but the result is not altogether positive. Now
our only hope is marrow autotransplantation. But it requires a lot of
money, which our family hasn't. We have been in Moscow for more than six
months. I take constant care of my son and cannot earn money now. And we
have already spent all we had.
Kolya's life now depends on financial help. Marrow transplantation is
his only chance.
Please help him believe in life and in people's kindness!
With hope and respect,
Olga Simonova

The doctor's comment
Sergei Simonov, 12 y.o., has been under treatment at the Department
of Oncohematology-27 with Burkitt's lymphoma, stage 4, since January 27,
2006. After 7 cycles of polychemotherapy, there is still a residual
tumor. The most efficient treatment method in this situation is
autotransplantation of peripheral stem cells, which is to be performed
quite soon.
Successful transplantation is possible only with the use of some
expensive medications, which are currently lacking at the hospital.
