My son Alexander Voloshin, aged 16, needs Mimpara (Cinacalcet). This drug is
very expensive: one pack costs 17,000 roubles (about $500), and we need 6 packs.
I cannot buy it all by myself, because I have been taking care of my son at the hospital
since July 2008, and so I have no job now. Alexander's father left us 15 years ago and
does not provide any financial help to us. Please help!

The doctor's comment
Alexander Voloshin, born August 11, 1992, has been a patient of the Department
of Kidney Transplantation since July 15, 2008. Diagnosis: chronic renal failure, terminal
stage in outcome of chronic glomerulonephritis, vesicoureteral reflux grade 2 on
the right, nephrogenic hypertension, anemia, secondary hyperparathyroidism,
peritoneal dialysis. The patient has been examined and included in the waiting
list for a donor kidney.
In view of uncorrectable disorders of calcium and phosphate metabolism, the
child has developed regions of metaplastic osteogenesis in
supraclavicular soft tissues, which required surgical intervention. The blood
parathyroid hormone level is still high, in spite of long-term use of
phosphate-binding drugs.
We need help in purchase of Mimpara (antiparathyroid drug) to treat marked
hyperparathyroidism in a patient receiving peritoneal dialysis. The required dose
is 30 mg/day for 6 months (a total of 6 packs).
