Masha Tseberyaboi has been under treatment and control at the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital
since 2000. The girl had lymphocytic leukemia, which was complicated by congenital esophageal
stenosis and gastroesophageal reflux. For five years after the completion of her treatment,
Masha could not eat by herself, only through a gastrostomy tube.
Two years ago, important changes took place in Masha's destiny thanks to your help.
The girl was operated in Munich by Prof. von Schweinitz, and at last it became possible
for her to eat by herself. But part of her problems are still with her. The German doctor
examined the girl one year ago, recommended some changes in the rehabilitation course,
but proposed a follow-up surgery one year later, because it was impossible to get rid
of all her problems in a single operation.
The approximate cost of Masha's next operation at the Munich University Clinic is 10,000 euro.
Masha's mother relies on your help and support very much. She says, "When I saw
Masha after the operation at the intensive care ward, all covered with tubes, I was afraid
that yet another miracle just can't happen after we have cured our leukemia. But, thank God,
this miracle has come true. I am whole-heartedly grateful to all people in Russia and
Germany who have made it possible. Masha had a lot of physical and moral pain during
these years. Now she thinks that she is quite healthy, like any normal child. She is very
strong. But I will never be sure of our future before the treatment is over. Please help us!"

Dear friends!
I, the mother of an ill child, address you almost in despair. My daughter Masha
is nearly 11 years old. She was born and lives in the provincial city of Orel.
When Masha was a little girl, she was healthy and sturdy. She grew up and
developed even faster than other children. But terrible trouble struck my
only child in 2000: she fell ill with acute lymphocytic leukemia. It was
all so unexpected and fast. As if some violent force was taking my child's
life away day after day.
Then our destiny led us to Moscow, to the Department of Oncohematololgy
of the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital. There we started our long way
to recovery. Even now it is painful to recall that time, but I knew that
my daughter must live.
As they say, it never rains but it pours, and we had another trouble.
Intensive chemotherapy evoked serious complications. One of them was
completely unpredictable: the girl's esophagus became so narrow that nothing
could pass down it. The child couldn't even make a gulp of water, to say
nothing about eating a piece of bread. The doctors said that they had never
seen anything like this during their long practice but similar cases had been
described in medical literature. A surgery was performed to install
a rubber catheter. And Masha received all nutrition through this tube for
many years.
Our doctors do all things possible - and even impossible - to make
the esophagus wider. But there is no positive result.
We have been under treatment at the RCCH for six years. Of course,
I am glad that the leukemia has not returned. But Masha is often depressed
because of constant medical manipulations, because of stresses and fears.
Soon she will become a teenager, but she cannot live a normal life.
There are tears and pain in her eyes. She thinks that she is defective.
We all know that man is created in God's image. And each person wants to live a
full life, not just to exist. It is wonderful if life goes forward and does not
return to the same point again and again, as our life with Masha.
Now we are at the RCCH. Masha's present diagnosis as follows:
first remission of acute lymphocytic leukemia, gastroesophageal reflux.
Condition after antireflux surgery. Reflux stenosis of the esophagus. Chronic
gastroduodenitis, deformed gallbladder. Osteoporosis of lumbar
vertebrae, secondary radicular syndrome. Myocardiodystrophy,
aortic valve prolapse. Vegetative dysfunction syndrome.
Dear friends, now our only hope for recovery is treatment in one of
German clinics. But treatment in Germany requires a lot of money.
Masha and I believe in your charitable support.
Thank you for reading my short confession. I wish you all the best,
and especially good health. God bless you.
With deep respect,
Olga Tseberyaboi

The doctor's comment
Prof. Karachunskii has received a reply from the child surgery
clinic of the Munich University, signed by Prof. Schweinitz.
It states that the surgery needed by Maria (Masha) Tseberyaboi
can be performed at that hospital. According to the payment
standards given in the doctor's letter, the approximate cost
of the treatment (including the child's stay at the hospital,
the surgery and the time at the intensive care ward) will be
20,000 euro.

Some news about Masha Tseberyaboi.
She and her mother left Munich and went home on November 15. The German doctors are
more than satisfied with the results of the surgery. In their opinion,
Masha had a congenital esophageal disorder, which was aggravated by
antileukemic treatment. Now Masha can eat by herself and feels
much better. She and her mother are optimistic. Other medical problems
must be resolved half a year later, when Masha and her mother
come to Munich again for a check-up.
5.11.2006 The news from Munich about Masha
Tseberyaboi. The surgery on her esophagus took place on October 26.
It was very difficult; the physicians say that it is the second such case
in their experience. But now Prof. Schweinitz is satisfied with the
result. Masha was transferred back to her ward from the intensive
care department on November 3. So far she receives parenteral nutrition.
Masha has yet another serious problem: a thrombus. The German doctors
promise to pay attention to this problem and control this dangerous clot.
